Your homeowners insurance policy usually covers four major categories of damage, loss, or injury on your property. When claims are made in any of these categories, you, as the homeowner, pay a deductible and any out-of-pocket costs. Your homeowners policy contains a liability limit which determines the amount of coverage. The four major categories covered are:
- Interior Damage
- Exterior Damage
- Loss or Damage of Personal Assets
- Injury That Arises While on the Property
There are some things that aren’t covered by a typical homeowners policy, such as Acts of War or Acts of God. Acts of God refers to natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods or mine subsidence. However, other weather-related disasters, such as hurricanes and tornadoes are included in your basic homeowners insurance policy.
